A&R Series Proposal

An absolutely fun project to take on! The client had a concept and script for a new television 'reality show', and needed a creative way to pitch it to networks. With an absolutely minimal budget and no production started, we needed to convey the excitement and energy of what the show would be like. As the show is based around bands and musicians, the design needed to have an 'edgier' look yet clearly convey the concept being proposed.

The objective of the Annual Service Plan Report (Annual Report) was to present FII’s activities, performance and financial statements to the Minister of Forests and Range. In creating the Annual Report, we wanted to produce a piece reflecting FII’s positive and progressive influence to British Columbia’s forestry industry. The design direction was to create a layout that contained all the required content, while visually complimenting that information in a way that would convey all of the positive elements of FII, and all within an extremely tight budget.

RISE Magazine

We were asked to create and design look for a new up and coming Canadian Men's magazine targeted to young professional males. The magazine needed to reflect a level of trendiness, yet maintain a sophisticated look, one that's synonymous with GQ. The greatest challenge was, that the style needed to be built up in such a way that each section maintained it's own identity, ranging from clothing, restaurant and movie reviews, to interviews with Canadian actors and articles on current events… and yet as a whole, viewers knew they were reading the same magazine. The style also had to be flexible enough to change, mature, and evolve through future issues.

City Square Shopping Centre

One of our most challenging jobs to date. City Square Shopping Centre hired us to create and design a series of gift certificates for them. These gift certificates had to be easy to use, simple to verify, and be accepted by all merchants. The direction mandated that we incorporate at least three security features, a design that was classic and would still be effective for years to come; it would be applicable to a variety of denominations and could be produced as cost-effectively as possible while maintaining an extremely high-level of quality and security.

To ensure all these attributes, printers were consulted to great lengths, from paper selections and special varnishes, to foil stamping and micro-printing, thus allowing us to incorporate every security feature into part of the design.

The result was a cleanly designed piece that was delivered on time and under budget. The success of this piece was that it visually conveyed a large amount of information in a clean, easy to read report.

The Mountain Pine Beetle teachers resource was a unique project, created to be part of BC’s high school teaching curriculum. The purpose of this resource was to educate students on the devastating effects the Mountain Pine Beetle is having on BC’s forests, and more specifically, on the cities and towns where the forestry industry plays a key economic role. The resource was comprised of several parts, the key one being a poster that, as it unfolds, tells the story of the Mountain Pine Beetle, how it's affecting the forests, the beetle’s life cycle, and the difficulty in exterminating it.

Other elements to the project included a teacher’s lesson plan, activities and tests for the students, a DVD and a sample kit of dead pine beetles, beetle infested wood, and blue-stained pine.
